Revelation

On a sunny day, the nave of Portsmouth cathedral is flooded with light, and the cathedral describes itself as a “beacon for people on land and at sea”. I wanted to create art that could serve as a beacon yet would also acknowledge brokenness and life’s challenges.

The original incorporated glass shards from a glass bowl that got accidently smashed (I only work with glass that is already broken and difficult to recycle.) I also incorporated millet seed husks. Husks are empty, and without life – words I have heard people use when describing their mental health crisis.

“Revelation” has several meanings for me. It makes me think of the way the bible story ends with the renewal and restoration of all things, the signs of exuberant growth in nature during the spring and summer months and the power that was displayed at Jesus’ resurrection.

I am aiming to make environment-friendly choices in my whole production process, so I use a carbon neutral printing company with printing facilities in the UK, EU and US. I print my work on Hahnemühle Bamboo due to the paper’s longevity and environmental credentials.

The print is currently offered in 2 sizes: 20cm x 20cm (8″ x 8″) and 30cm x 30cm (12″ x 12″). This includes a 1.5 cm (0.6″) border.

Upon request, it can be made available in larger sizes (up to 60cm x 60cm or 24” x 24”).
